Early Detection Saves Lives: Why Regular Skin Checks Are Essential

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. With intense UV radiation and a love for the outdoors, it's no surprise that melanoma incidence rates have risen to an estimated 63 cases per 100,000 people in 2025, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.  2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70, but early detection dramatically improves outcomes—over 95% of cases are curable when caught early.

At Kogarah Skin Cancer Centre, conveniently located in the heart of Kogarah, we specialise in full body skin checks, prompt treatments, mole and cyst removals, and comprehensive skin cancer care. Our dedicated clinic offers extended hours most weekends, and walk-ins are welcome—making it easier for busy Sydney residents to prioritise their skin health.

The Importance of Early Detection in Skin CancerSkin cancer, including melanoma and non-melanoma types, is largely preventable and highly treatable when detected early. Cancer Council Australia notes that more than 95% of skin cancers are caused by UV exposure, yet regular checks can identify suspicious spots before they become serious. At Kogarah Skin Cancer Centre, our experienced doctors use advanced tools like dermatoscopes for magnified examination of moles and lesions, ensuring accurate diagnosis.

Dermoscopy allows for detailed mole checks, catching potential issues early. What to Expect During a Full Body Skin Check at Our Kogarah ClinicA full body skin check is quick, painless, and thorough—typically taking 15-30 minutes. Here's what happens:
